Nurses will take the fight to the government’s doorstep in a demonstration to end their ‘summer of protest’ which thousands are expected to attend.
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) confirmed that the location for its main ‘Scrap the Cap’ rally of the summer will be Parliament Square in London on 6 September.

While the rally takes place, MPs will also be invited to attend a drop in session at the Houses of Parliament. Politicians will be able to find out more about the RCN’s campaign and talk to nurses about the effects of the pay cap, which continues to hold wages below inflation.
Coming at the end of a season of protest action, the RCN has already led the way on protest events across 40 UK cities, with nurses attending from all over the country.

‘At the same time as the rally, RCN members will be sharing their stories about how the cap has affected them,’ said RCN chief executive Janet Davies. ‘This event is an escalation of our summer of protest to make sure the pay cap will be at the top of the government’s priority list before the autumn budget.’
The rally will take place from 12.30-2.30pm on Wednesday, 6 September, and RCN members can apply for funding to get free travel to the event.
