As a nurse, we have a caseload of families that we look after. We are in charge of their package of care. We meet with a family when they first get referred to us. They get 200 hours that they can use over the course of the year. They can use that however they wish. We do hospice sessions and we also do community care.
Around 60% of our workload is community based, so go out to the home and look after them there. This can involve be a mixture of nurses an carers, depending on the child’s needs. We assess this when we meet them, to see what level of care they need from us. We then go out and create memories with them at home, look after them for a period of time, so parents and family get some respite time.
