A conference on nursing appraisal and revalidation will be held on 9 December at the Manchester Conference Centre. Jackie Smith, chief executive and registrar of the NMC, will explain how appraisals will form the basis of the revalidation process, due to be introduced by the end of 2015.

Dr Elaine Maxwell, principal lecturer in leadership at the Faculty of Health and Social Care of London's South Bank University will chair the day. Other speakers will include Lisa Bayliss-Pratt, director of nursing at HEE, who will speak about nursing appraisals at HEE, and the role of appraisal in delivering the Francis recommendations.
