Dr Paul Offit, a US-based measles expert, told BBC Newsnight the UK would benefit from American-style compulsory vaccination programmes.
Latest figures revealed the number of cases of measles in and around Swansea, had risen to 700.
Public Health Wales said there were no signs of a slow-down in cases. Drop-in vaccination clinics are being held in Swansea, Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot.
