The report highlights concerns around the quality of services for people with mental health issues and learning disabilities. Based on 20,000 inspections, it reveals people with dementia living in care homes are more likely to be admitted to hospital with avoidable conditions such as UTIs.
RCN general secretary Dr Peter carter said:‘It is distressing for dementia patients to be admitted to hospital with a condition, which could have been avoided by early intervention. ‘Specialist nurses are needed to overcome many of the problems identified.'
