Healthcare leaders have called for 'desperately needed' detail of how ministers plan to make progress on its reforms to social care funding.

The government's Mid-Term Review confirmed the coalition is moving towards a cap on individual liability for costs of long-term care for elderly and disabled people. But 18 months after the Dilnot Commission recommended a cap to be set at £35,000, the review merely says ministers 'support its principles'.

NHS Confederation chief executive Mike Farrar, said: 'While we are pleased the government remains committed to reforming social care funding, we desperately need to see more detail about how we will progress this. We need to address this issue now or risk paying the price further down the line.'
