Monday 18 November is European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EEAD), a public health initiative aimed at encouraging the responsible use of antibiotics.

It is supported in England by the Department of Health, and its advisory committee on antimicrobial resistance and health care associated infections.

The NHS, local authorities and other organisations are asked to support EEAD.

EEAD supports the aims of the UK Five Year Antimicrobial resistance strategy which focuses on antibiotics and sets out actions to slow the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance.

A selection of resources has been collected for primary healthcare workers to provide information about prescribing antibiotics in primary care.

The TARGET Antibiotics toolkit was developed by the RCGP, PHE and The Antimicrobial Stewardship in Primary Care.

Some of the resources have been adapted from original materials produced by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
