Ministers have pledged that people will not have to pay 'astronomical care costs', following the publication of the Care Bill.

Care services minister Norman Lamb said no one would have to sell their home to pay for the costs of living in a care home. The government has set a cap on what ministers have described as 'reasonable care costs'. Currently anyone with assets of more than £23,250 faces unlimited care costs but the Bill means the state would pay as soon as an individual's costs hit £72,000.

Mr Lamb said: 'People will be able to plan for their later years and not have to fear being saddled with catastrophic costs to pay for care.'
