Skin cancer risk
Sunbed users are at risk of skin cancer, even if they do not burn, researchers from Dundee University found. A separate study by PHE revealed that hospital admissions for skin cancer have risen by nearly a third since 2009.
Appointment
Professor Jane Donaldson, a registered nurse and nurse teacher, has been appointed head of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Stirling. She previously headed the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Care at Edinburgh Napier University.
Domperidone becomes prescription-only drug
On 4 September, Domperidone became a prescription-only medicine, following recommendations by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency. Domperidone is used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting.
NMC appoints new chair
Professor Dame Janet Finch has been appointed as the chair of the NMC. She previously worked as the vice chancellor of the University of Keele.
