NHS 111 is 'steadily improving' and is 'highly rated' by users, according to NHS England, which claims themajority of NHS 111 services are meeting performance standards. However, some providers continue to fail.
In April, there were 566,532 calls to NHS111 compared with 360,526 the previous month, but 66,000 of calls took more than a minute to answer.
Laurence Buckman, chair of the BMA's GP committee, said the figures do not give a full picture of performance. 'In many areas, NHS 111 is still not operational or is relying heavily on support from local GPs,' he said.
