Health and Wellbeing Boards will have to engage with nurses and existing service providers to be effective in improving local health outcomes, the NHS Confederation has said. But it adds that nurses must take a proactive role in developing networks to provide a a two-way channel for communication.
Head of policy Jo Webber said: 'Nurses should be involved in the conversation, but it is sometimes hard to get a voice from a practice nurse. The GP is not the only gatekeeper in primary care, many people have their relationship with practice nurses. Logistics of nursing means there cannot be a national prescription on nurse influence, but nurses could build local networks to engage with providers.'
