Nurses come second only to doctors as the most important profession according to a survey by care provider HC-One.
In a survey of 1507 adults in the UK, people were asked to rank a list of 10 jobs in order of importance. Doctors came first with nurses in second place, followed by police officers and firefighters. The top 10 is as follows:
1. Doctor
2. Nurse
3. Police Officer
4. Firefighter
5. Teacher
6. Carer
7. Dentist
8. Lawyer
9. Politician
10. Banker
Carers and dentists were also recognised in the list and ranked higher than lawyers and politicians.
Dr Chai Patel, chairman of HC-One, said: 'The nursing care provided at all of the homes is vital to Residents and to HC-One. It is a cornerstone of what HC-One stands for, and without the hard work and dedication of our nursing team, HC-One would not be where we are today – providing truly kind and quality care.'
The poll was carried out by HC-One and in assocation with YouGov.
HC-One is the third largest care home provider for older people.
