The DH will be undertaking a week of action to raise the awareness of health protection in nurses and midwives from 24 February - 28 February.

The aim of the week is to share and celebrate the contribution of nursing and midwifery and to look at the challenges that may face these health professionals.

Viv Bennett, director of nursing at Public Health England and the Department of Health hopes that the week will connect with as many nurses and midwives as possible to promote good practice and help to develop a better understanding of the profession's role in this area. She would also like to highlight how nurses can deliver public health success through a multiprofessional approach.

Viv Bennett's blog page will be the main hub of the week and will provide daily updates of what is happening.

The week will be divided into key themes with Monday as an introduction day, Tuesday will focus on antimicrobial resistance/healthcare required infection, Wednesday will be about immunisation, Thursday on tuberculosis and Friday on other areas such as mental health and reflecting on the weeks activity.

Each day will have a headline blog from a national leader and there will be webinars and twitterchats for people to interact and ask questions.

For twitter updates follow #N&MProtectHealth; the various members of the DH nursing team will be tweeting through out the week. They can followed using the handles @VivJBennett, @MrsBosanquet, @DavidFosterDH, @PaulinWatts, @WendyJNicholson, @BenT_DH and @JChristensenDH.
