The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has launched a consultation about registration fees it will charge general practices in 2013 and 2014.
Practices with between 5,001 and 8,000 patients could pay £800 in the first year of their registration but fees could increase by as much as 100 per cent in subsequent years under the regulator's preferred model, meaning some practices could pay £1,600 in 2014.
The consultation focuses on how the CQC will work towards full-cost recovery of fees from providers by 2015/16 and how it will use incentives to maximise efficiency.
