The Queen's Nursing Institute has opened a fund to support community nurses who have been affected by the recent flooding in Cumbria.
The organisation is offering £500 to any affected nurse who works in the community, including general practice nurses, district nurses, school nurses, and health visitors. To receive the money, nurses will need their manager's verification that they are currently working as a nurse and that they have been impacted by the flood.
'Nurses affected by the flood are doing their utmost to provide care and see their patients,' said Joanna Moorby, the QNI's welfare and grants officer. 'We are trying to support nurses in anyway we can. We are helping nurses to help other people.'
Ms Moorby said that she had already received requests from five nurses, and was expecting that number to rise. The flooding in the wake of storm Desmond has severely affected the lake district and surrounding areas.
Any nurse who has been affected by the floods is urged to call the QNI on 020 7549 1405 or email joanne.moorby@qni.org.uk for more information about how to access the funds.
