The code of conduct and minimum training standards for healthcare assistants (HCAs), pledged by ministers, have been launched by Skills for Health and Skills for Care.
The training standards focus on 10 key areas and set out what should be covered during a period of induction in the first weeks of employment. These include duty of care, safeguarding, communication, person centred care, infection control, handling and health and safety.
Last week, health secretary Jeremy Hunt confirmed he had no plans to introduce statutory HCA registration or regulation, despite repeated calls for both.
