Healthy life expectancy in the UK increased by more than two years in the period 2008-2010, compared with 2005-2007, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said.
However, although the proportion of life spent in good health has increased in England and Wales, it fell in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
On average, more than four-fifths of a lifetime in the UK is spent in good health from birth, the ONS said.
