A new body organisation in the style of Health Education England will be launched in Wales, the Welsh Government has announced.
The new body, Health Education Wales, is expected to be in place by 1 April 2018. It will be responsible for training and education for nurses and other healthcare professionals in Wales. It will specifically concentrate on developing a strategy to tailor health education and training to the specific geographic needs of Wales, which differs from other regions.
‘The workforce is the beating heart of the NHS in Wales,’ said Welsh health secretary Vaughan Gething. ‘The new body I’ve announced today will create an environment in Wales which builds a culture that supports learning in the working environment, attracting and retaining the best people possible, on a cross Wales basis.’
The decision was made as a result of the conclusion of the Health Professionals Education Investment review, which was published in April 2015. ‘I am confident this is the right approach for Wales and I now intend to put arrangements in place to enable Health Education Wales to be delivered,’ added Mr Gething.
