Boost health through warmth

An award-winning scheme is helping vulnerable people to heat their homes sufficiently.

Health Through Warmth is a community initiative, established in 2000, and run by gas and electricity supplier npower in partnership with the NHS and National Energy Action, the national fuel poverty charity.

The scheme enables vulnerable people, at risk of contracting cold-related illnesses, to benefit from free or subsidised installation of heating and insulation that they could not afford without financial assistance. From January 2012, the geographical scope of the scheme increased and its services are now available to vulnerable residents throughout England and Wales.

Referring patients
According to latest statistics from National Energy Action, approximately 7 million people in the UK have insufficient heating in their homes. This can adversely affect health, especially in individuals with chronic conditions, such as cardiovascular or respiratory diseases.
