Why did you become a nurse?
I liked looking after people and planned to join Mother Teresa in Calcutta or work in Africa for the Red Cross but my husband came along and plans changed.
How has your career developed since you started nursing?
I qualified as a RGN at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth School of Nursing and worked on an adult surgical ward for a year before working on a children's medical ward at East Birmingham Hospital.
After six months, I started registered sick children's nurse (RSCN) training at the Birmingham Children's Hospital and stayed after qualifying. I worked on the liver unit for three years as a junior sister and realised I wanted to be a community children's nurse supporting families at home.
