Why did you become a nurse?
I have always wanted to be a nurse. I delayed starting my training, as I had some opposition from my father. He saw it as a second choice, as he wanted me to go to university. Nursing was not generally in universities in the 1970's.
How has your career developed since you started nursing?
I started training as an SRN in 1979, but as I progressed, I found myself enjoying children's nursing. My first job was at the University Hospital of Wales, children unit, where I was seconded to do my RSCN.
I have had various clinical jobs, both as an adult and children's nurse. In 1984, I joined the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Corps (QARANC) managing the children's units of the military hospitals serving the local community.
