Why did you become a nurse?
I remember wanting to become a nurse from the age of 12 when I went to live with my grandmother. She was in her early 70s and I learned so much about older people and their health issues. I wanted to be a part of that world that helped people to be cared for at home wherever possible.
How has your career developed since you started nursing?
I started nurse training at London's University College Hospital (UCH) in 1977 and met two of my closest friends, both still working as nurses, in the first week. They have been a brilliant support throughout my career.
