Why did you become a nurse?

It was a long time ago when I did my training. I started training in 1989. At that time it seemed the right way forward for me to go into nursing. There was a lot of change at the time. I’d just finished my A levels and I was really lucky with the career I had chosen. I knew I wanted to work with people and to communicate with them.

How has your career developed since you started nursing?

At the start of my career, I was based in hospitals across West Yorkshire and progressed to a management role in wards in a couple of locations. Most of my time I’ve been working on diabetes patients in wards. I then decided to specialise in diabetes. So I completed the course and become a diabetes specialist nurse.
