What made you want to go into nursing?

It was quite a personal reason for me. I was working in NatWest Bank for 12 years. During that time my son was diagnosed with cancer. So, I spent the next two years in and out of the Hay Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. I had to learn a lot of things to care for him, his medication, compassion in healthcare and managing all that while looking after my other children.

A lot of my learning came from his community nurse, Jean Davies, who is now a doctor. When I saw her work, I questioned my career and my decision to go back to NatWest. I decided to reevaluate my life when I lost my son. I had seen the work that nurses put in every day. 98% of the care my son received was from hardworking and caring nurses.
