Why did you become a nurse?

My mum worked as a carer and shared stories of her career. This sowed the seed of my curiosity in health care. I have always enjoyed caring for people and that is where my nursing journey began.

How has your career developed since you started nursing?

I qualified as a nurse at Hertfordshire College for Health Care Studies at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage in 1991. I then decided to venture to the Big Smoke to work as a surgical nurse at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

I worked in the intensive care unit where I learnt skills in critical care and had the privilege of caring for people at their most vulnerable time in their life. I then worked as a senior staff nurse at the West Middlesex Hospital.
