CQC to change the way it regulates

Since the publication of its strategy for 2016 to 2021, the CQC has been hard at work, consulting on a number of proposals to change the way it registers, monitors and inspects health and social care services. This year has seen a number of consultations concerned with the regulation of primary medical services, including independent sector providers.

The changes the CQC is implementing, following its first and second consultations, will have implications for general practice and independent doctor services. It has emphasised the important wider role of primary care nurses who are increasingly involved in decision-making processes.
It’s very clear that practice nurses have an important role to play in the delivery of care and it is therefore crucial that nurse managers, in particular, are familiar with the changes to help ensure they are prepared for inspections.
