Why did you become a nurse?

I found I wanted to be a nurse after going to visit my sister in hospital. The patient next to her bed needed something and I went to help, and soon realised that's what I wanted to do. I was 16 years old and went into nursing at 18.

How has your career developed since you started nursing?

I left nursing in 1983 when I got married and moved to Greenwich at the time that Mrs Thatcher was closing wards and cutting nursing staff. I left for 17 years. I ran a number of fast food businesses with my husband, while raising my three children.
