An innovative new project, DIY Health (0-five) gives parents of children under five the knowledge and skills to confidently manage their children's health at home, and to know when to seek further help. The DIY Health pilot project was co-produced by Bromley by Bow Health Partnership (BBBHP) in partnership with the Bromley by Bow Centre, local children's centres, health visitors and parents in the local community.
The pilot cohort of the project in 2013-14 saw encouraging results; parents felt confident and empowered to look after their family's health and there was an increase in access to the Pharmacy First scheme, a minor ailments scheme run by local pharmacies where they can supply some medicines on the NHS. Attendances to general practice, out-of-hours general practice and A&E were reduced.
