Two e-learning modules to support maternal mental health have been released by NHS Scotland. The modules are aimed at healthcare professionals working with pregnant mothers and new families, such as midwives and health visitors. The first module is on understanding maternal mental health and includes basic facts about the mental illnesses that may affect women during their pregnancy and postnatal period. It also contains information on promoting positive mental health, identifying risk and protective factors for mental ill health, and prescribing during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The second module contains information about the role of the healthcare professional in ensuring that new and expectant mothers are well supported, as well as recommendations on multi-professional care teams. The modules are free to download.
