Holidays and sick leave

I am on long term sick leave. My condition is improving and I will return to full health in the future. Do I accrue holidays even while I am on long-term sick leave? Can I take holidays while on sick leave?

Periods of sickness are stressful for staff and worrying about other issues like annual leave don't help. Fortunately the government has legislated rules to ensure fairness for employees in these situations and so I am able to give this reader some good news and advice.

I have said on a number of occasions that sick leave and holiday leave have different functions - one is to recover from illness, and the other is for rest, relaxation and leisure, so anyone on sick leave is also entitled to accrue holiday.
