NICE has released a consultation on draft guidelines for the care of women going through menopause. Some of the recommendations included in the draft guidelines include the provision of holistic and personalised care, and the use of cognitive behavioural therapy to help women manage possible mental side effects such as anxiety. The guidelines also highlight the need for greater awareness of hormone replacement therapy, specifically that the treatment does not increase the risk of a woman developing breast cancer, or the risk of cardiovascular disease in women aged under 60. The consultation is open to nurses and other healthcare professionals until 13 July, and the full guidelines are scheduled to be released in October 2015.
