Molly Courtenay helps resolve everyday issues for nurse prescribers

I am a district nurse and I qualified as an independent/supplementary prescriber around two years ago. From time-to-time I prescribe medicines over the telephone (i.e. remotely) for several patients for whom I am responsible. These patients live in a rural location. My understanding is that I am able to do prescribe in this way because I am fully aware of these patients' conditions and the individual medical histories of each of these patients. Can you please confirm that this is correct?

Yes, you are able to prescribe for these patients. On occasions, it may be necessary for you to prescribe remotely. This includes the situation that you have described: prescribing for patients living in rural locations.
