I have just started the independent supplementary prescribing course. I work in an elderly care setting. I have been informed by the tutor who runs the course, that in order to successfully complete the programme, I need to be able to demonstrate my competence in relation to history taking and assessment in children. Can you explain this outcome as it bears little relevance to my area of practice?
As many nurse prescribers work in settings in which they frequently come into contact with children, the NMC developed an additional learning outcome for the prescribing programme that strengthens the Standards of Proficiency for Nurse and Midwife Prescribers in relation to prescribing for this group.
