Preparing for a CQC inspection

Helena Frankova details how you can prepare your practice for an evaluation

Some 7000 GP practices are registered with CQC (Box 1), occupying 16% regulated providers.1

If you work in one of the practices expecting an inspection soon (Table 1) here’s how you can make the most of it and maximise your kudos with inspectors.

Basics

The first thing to do is to cover the basics. Make sure your files are up to date and easily accessible – electronic or hard copy. Put summary sheets in place for things like complaints, accidents and incidents, safeguarding and CQC notification files so they can see at a glance everything that’s been reported and the actions taken. Do your trend analysis on these to identify patterns and actions to prevent repetition.
