Volunteering for London 2012

There is a sense of sadness as I put away my distinctive purple and beige London 2012 gamesmaker uniform for the last time, but I now have time to reflect on the experience of a lifetime.

I clearly remember the moment, five years ago, when I first heard the news that London had been awarded the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. From that minute, I knew I wanted to be part of the games. I was aware there would be volunteering opportunities and, later, that 500 nurses would be appointed in various roles.

I registered my interest on the London 2012 website immediately and submitted my application about two years ago. As an advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) with extensive experience in primary and urgent care, including general practice, walk-in and urgent care centres, I felt I had the necessary skills to contribute to the games' healthcare provision.
